How can one detect if Chinese Embroidery is by hand or machine?
Fine Chinese Embroidery is usually done by hand, for over 500 years, however many are now done by machine...which affects the cost, etc.

The only way I know of is to check the back of the stitching. If the last piece of thread has been tied off or tucked away then it is most likely done by hand. If there is a little tail left dangling than it's more likely done by machine.

THANK YOU
I wouldn't have thought to do that. I wish that would work online, though. You can't check the thread if you're ordering items from the web. Machine embroidery designs aren't bad, but there is just something in knowing that it is hand made.
