Edgar Allan Poe once stated, "I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity." He also used alcohol and drugs to "self-medicate" his depression, which probably just added another dimension to it. His writing was certainly enhanced by the darkest corners of his mind.

Painters such as Van Gogh suffered from depression and painted some of the most beautiful works that are classically recognized

Most of the most creative people I know have bouts of depression. This can be attributed to the fact that they feel emotions intensely and use creative outlets to express them.

I think so.. You look back and most of the peopel who were creative in paintings and writting even science were all a little nuts =-P
