I tried searching for the star as well... here are some of the pics I saw.
The first image I think looks like it. But I dunno if that's what you're looking for. Anyway, goodluck for the tattoo! ^^

Anyhow, I tried checking a number of sprite sheets and found little to nothing. The closest i found was this:
I actually have a pdf of a SMB1 sprite sheet which might help. If you direct question me your email addy i can send it over.
Amazing, I can find a sprite sheet for everything in SMB, but the Star. *grumble*

I also found this that you could probably blow up in photoshop and use the grid for.

The problem is that bent lines can't exist in 8-bit (old mario) graphics. The easily identifiable pixel graphics that we look fondly back on today are a result of the poor screen resolutions of yesteryear.

I quickly hacked up a copy of the one @fallen_angel21 found.
The problem is really in the recognition between the new curvy star and the old straight pixel star. If you want to pay homage to Mario and his brother, I would consider sticking with either a direct copy of either the origional or the modern version.
Hopefully this gets you a little closer to where you want to go!

Looking for an image from one of the Mario games.. Does it even exist?
What I'm looking for is the star from Mario
black outline
yellow center
pixelated
It needs to be a straight on view
The tips of the arms need to come to a point (like, 1 pixel rather than a few pixels across)
Even if it's not directly from one of the games, it needs to be recognizable from Mario
This star -> http://img.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/120821/Stars.jpg
But this style -> http://www.reconscious.com/blog2/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/wall_small.jpg
The closest I've found is this one, but I don't like how the top of the two upper arms are straight across... Do you think it would still be recognizable if those arms were on a slight angle up or down, just so it doesn't look like a solid line? If so, I'd like to find one that has angled arms at the top.

I would love if someone could find me an image like this. The clearer and larger, the better. I'm just not seeing it on google with my search criteria.
If someone is willing to make an attempt to draw what I want, let me know and we can work out a price.
It's going to be for a tattoo which is why I'm so specific.
Attempts?

That's pretty close! The ends need to be pointier but I could do that myself.. I just wish the arms weren't straight at the top :(
Thanks for the picture :)

Well, the problem is the straight arms at the top is how the game itself makes it look, so I don't know if you'll actually find the shape you're looking for. But I did find this pic here. It looks a little more pixelated on the arms then some of the other pics to me, and it also looks a little disproportionate. It's on a hat so I don't know if you can use it but I thought I'd try.

I don't think that the image you're looking for exists. It will need to be created for you. The problem is that bent lines can't exist in 8-bit (old mario) graphics. The easily identifiable pixel graphics that we look fondly back on today are a result of the poor screen resolutions of yesteryear.

Thanks rob! It's not that I want them bent... I want them like one of the lower arms.. so they're choppy and pixel-ey rather than a straight line.. get what I mean? But I'm starting to think It's not a good idea and maybe I will stick to the original, or it just won't look right.

Yeah, I get what you mean. That's actually where I started this sketch. I pulled off the tops of the arms, copied one of the large square pixels and was copying it down to form the bend.
However, since the spacing wasn't right it didn't look good.
I agree though - I think that the origional would be cool. If the tattoo artist could add some shading either inside, outside, or both... that might be the way to modernize it a bit?
Make sure you post some pictures!

I dont know if you want me to but I can edit this picture to make it yellow and black outlines (ill bend the arms a little and make it bigger so they arnt "straight") I wont be able to have it done for like another hour, hour and a half (ill have to do it when I get home no Photoshop at work). Just let me know.

Thanks for the pic... I don't think it's necessary though. I'm fairly sure it'd turn out the same as the other pics provided here :)
