Are you a shorts person? :)

My husband and I both feel self-conscious wearing shorts out and about. Our legs are so white that we lood obscene in shorts. But shorts are SO much cooler! We usually wear shorts at home and then change into long pants if we leave the house. How about you? Do you wear shorts out in public to beat the heat, or do you stick to long pants to feel less dorky?

I WISH I could say I was a "shorts person"! However, I inherited my short, stocky legs from my Dad (thanks Dad) and they never see the light of day so are beyond pale! There have been many occasions where I have secretly wished that shorts had never been invented.

It seems that the female shorts craze was started by cyclists in the 1890's who wore a long version of today's shorts. In 1932, a female tennis star started a trend with knee-length shorts. Flash forward a decade or two and Hollywood pinups like Betty Grable were sporting shorter shorts that are more in line with the styles we see today. Men have been wearing short pants, kilts and togas since the early 14th century.

Yeah I admit I do wear shorts, but only around home and at the homes of my family members. I have what family members call Timm hips and thunder thighs! Add in the varicose veins and pale white color and my legs look like the underside of a whale. It’s okay if family members see them but not the public.
Even in the winter in my home you will find me in shorts some of the time, I simply toss a blanket over my legs when I am cold. I just like the non-confining way my shorts fit and I am able to sit with my legs crossed which minimizes the pain from sitting. I have RA so my legs hurt a lot, and yes, I often sit with one leg folded up under me.
If it’s super hot here, I will wear my older son’s shorts to the store. I like his shorts as they go dang near to my knees and hide the hip and thigh area.

Loved this song as a kid..

I missed that as a kid, but I did love this Nair commercial, made from that song in 1986!

I am a shorts person since we have mostly warm weather all year round. I chose to wear shorts because I feel comfortable with it and I can move easily. Even if we go out to play badminton I prefer to wear shorts instead of jogging pants.
I go for comfort, at first I am self conscious when wearing shorts in public places but my husband gave me confidence to wear it. He told me that I look great and OK with it so I feel more comfortable and easy when I am using it.
Now, even at home I wear shorts and when I go out for a long walk I also put on a nice pair of shorts and sneakers and I am off to go!

Being from Alaska born and raised I have absolutely no tolerance for heat and am literally near translucent, on top of that I have red head skin so I burn easier than soup in a cast iron pan. So shorts are a love hate thing for me. I can't handle even the summer heat here and wear pants but my legs are not a lovely sight... knobby and fish belly white and easily lobstered. I usually either go your route, wear shorts at home and change when I go out or wear loose long fitting light skirts. I couldn't tell you what there actually called, I usually search gypsy or boho skirt to find them on ebay but they are so light weight and let the wind in while blocking the sun their perfect.

I have to admit that I’m just like you. I wear shorts (or less) at home with my dogs, but I put on long pants or jeans to go out of the house. It is just the dogs and I at home so it really doesn’t matter what I wear. I put a pair of sweatpants on my chair in case I run around the house in my underwear; so I can put them on if the door bell rings. It sure wouldn’t be appropriate to answer my door in my underwear.

You will never catch me outside in shorts or a tank top. You will always see me in long pants and either a t-shirt or coat. My legs aren’t fit to be seen by other humans. They are white and just plain ugly.

When I go out I am either in jeans or a suit and tie. I wear shorts around the house just to go get the mail or sit on the porch but outside of that I just don't wear them.

I really do not like my legs, so I am definitely NOT a shorts person. I am only 5' 2' and I have stubby little white legs, add to that the veins and the knobbly knees and it is not a pretty sight, however, they do get me around so I shouldn't really grumble!

Trouble is, being self conscious of my legs is a bit of a nuisance because I live in Spain and of course the summers here are extremely hot.

I have never had nice legs and I must admit I do feel envious when I see girls who do, wearing their shorts and looking great in them.

So that leaves me as a short, closet shorts person, I skulk around the house in mine, only because it is cooler and I won't even answer the door to anyone unless I quickly pull on a long skirt or jeans!

I saw this marvelous, expensive exercise machine on television, which guarantees to trim and tone legs, it might well be good but I think I need one that would lengthen them by six inches!

I wear shorts when I swim. That's it. I know that the ventilation benefits can be huge, but I've never felt comfortable in them. I prefer to dress as formally as I can at any given time, and shorts have this casual vibe that I try to avoid. Shorts also ruin the look of many different types of shoes, so you have to be very careful. In fact, though I don't agree with this 100%, some may say that sandals are the only appropriate footwear choice with shorts. I know someone who once wore shorts with formal leather shoes and it didn't work at all.

I spend most of my days in the air conditioning anyway, so it's not really that uncomfortable for me to simply dress how I like. For what it's worth, I even wore a wool suit today!

I honestly probably should care about how I look or what others think but I do not. I have no problem going into public in shorts or in pajamas at times. Maybe it comes with age. There are so many things going on in our lives that I stopped worrying about what people thought a long time ago. If I am going on Date Night with my spouse I will dress nice, but if I have to run to the store our talk with neighbors out front I could really care less.

To me comfort is so important. If it is hot outside I will wear a tank and shorts.

My son is funny, he is like you and will not wear shorts. He does not people want to see his legs for some reason. I feel so bad because it may be 94 degrees and he is in jeans. He looks so hot and uncomfortable.

I think we all should look how we want and maybe the world can stop judging each other. That would be nice!

When it's warm outside, I always wear my shorts. I don't like to be hot, so I would say that from April or May through September I will wear my shorts. I have mesh shorts that I like to wear in and around the house, but out in public I wont wear those. I wear a more dressy type of short when out in public.

I don't think you should feel dorky or self conscious about wearing shorts in public because you have white legs, as you say. I suppose it's a matter or what makes you feel more comfortable. Does wear long pants and not feeling "dorky" or uneasy make you more uncomfortable that being hot because you chose to wear long pants on a day when wearing shorts would be more comfortable?
