Are there any "catches" to the product Magicjack?

For the product magicjack, it is said to be free calling? How does this work, and are there any catches to the product?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Here are a couple of reviews. The obvious downside is no internet no phone but that goes for any VOIP type phone system.

There are some potential privacy issues as well that are outlined in these reviews.

I have had vonage and now Time Warner VOIP and have been very pleased with both, very few issues.

Magic Jack is cheap, I might give it a shot.

I have a MagicJack and it works great! Very cheap and pretty reliable...

Of course, you have to have an Internet connection. The only other "catch" is laying down your money and then having the company go out of business... I doubt that will happen though.

Not really but if your internet connection goes down, you have no phone.

You pay them yearly which is cheap and easy in my opinion (1st year included with the purchase).
