Are there any astronomy sites where I can find a pic of the night sky on a certain date?

Looking for the conjunction of the moon and Venus from late May, 2007.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Stellarium is an excellent, free program that will do exactly what you asked, has an attractive user interface, and is very easy to use. There are versions for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Google Earth, used in sky mode, and Microsofts' Worlwide Telescope, will also do this, but Stellarium does it better, and prettier.

Stellarium website- http://www.stellarium.org/
Stellarium screenshots- http://www.stellarium.org/screenshots.html

Worlwide Telescope website- http://www.worldwidetelescope.org/Home.aspx

Google Earth- http://earth.google.com/intl/en/download-earth.html

I agree with Stellarium, you can see the night sky at a certain second.

This seems to be a sight that accomplishes what you're asking. You can use Google maps to determin latitude and longitude if necessary. Hope this helps!

On re-reading your question as well as the answers, I'm not sure whether you're looking for a map of the sky or actual images of the night sky on a specific date. If you're looking for maps, several good choices have been given. For images, there is no central database, and a Google image search for the date or event in question might be the easiest approach. To use your example, a search for

moon venus conjunction may 2007

turned up over 72,000 images, including this one:

The Astronomy Picture of the Day (http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap070523.html), a NASA initiative, may be a good bet for you.

I found this picture of the moon near Venus taken on May 23, 2007 (by Jay Ouellet) on the site.

Hope it's what you are looking for!

Go to Night Sky Live http://nightskylive.net/index.php to view tonight's sky over the Canary Islands, Spain; over Cerro Pachon,Chile; and over Tucson, Arizona (MMTO).

You click on the one you want, and for each camera image, the stars, planets, and constellations are shown. These are live sky cameras so it has to be night where the camera is located.

To look at the night sky for a specific date, the MMTO site

These might be interesting sites, but they don't answer the question.
