I believe this to be a rumour. I checked the official hockey league site NHL http://www.nhl.com/index.html and TSN, Canada's Sport Leader for News http://www.tsn.ca/ and nothing is mentioned. As well, Wikipedia is always on top of updating their site pages with current, relevent and useful information and there's no mention there as well. Seeing as Craig Mactavish is Canadian, another good Canadian site for Sport News is http://www.cbc.ca/sports/ and nothing posted there.
Lets hope it's only a rumour.
P.S. Pat Burns was diagnosed with Colon Cancer.
