Are the pictures on flickr free to use or are some copyright protected?

I would like to use some pictures I found on flickr, are they available for anyone to use? I see that they are uploaded by certain people, but it doesn't say if I can use them to accent my blog.
Will I have to upload my won pictures in order to use Flickr to add pictures to my blog or am I able to use the ones that are already up on the site?
I had been using the Google images but it seems that most of the people that upload those do not want them being placed on a blog.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Some photos on Flickr can be used in your blog and some can't.
It depends on the license the person who uploaded them has chosen. If you look down the right hand side of the screen when you have the photo up, it'll have a section that will say "some rights reserved". Click on this and it will take you to see which license they have chosen and what the rules of it are.
If it is a "creative commons" license, for example, the rules might be that you can use the photo as long as you say who took it (attribution) and provide a link back to where you got it on Flickr.
It's also nice to give them a little message on Flickr telling them you've used it, but not necessary.

The best way to find photos you can use freely on a blog (usually with the same sort of license) is by clicking "images" in the top right hand corner of Google.com and then "advanced image search" next to the search bar.
Down the bottom it will have an option for usage rights... go to "commercial reuse". Then search. All the photos that will be returned will have creative commons or equivalent licenses. Most of them will be from Flickr.
Hope this helps!
