Are birds dinosaurs?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Dinosuars are usually classified as the vertibrates from the Triassic period until the Cretacious period. This would cause the average person to answer, "No," to this question. They will usually just think of the dinosaurs that they see in books and in meuseums as being dinosaurs.

Biologists and paleontologists classify any creature that is decended from a group of animals as being part of the original classification. Birds are part of the Maniraptora family. The Maniraptora family are the ultimate decendents of the saurischians, which were dinosaurs. This would mean that by classification, birds are dinosaurs and that dinosaurs never trruely entered extinction as a whole.

Since scientists are the ones that discover, and devise the laws of science, the classification of birds as dinosaurs would have to stand.
