The most well-known answer is that the Aston Martin is the go-to car for none other than the British super spy, James Bond. This is ironic because when Sir Ian Flemming wrote the books the films were based on, he depicted Bond driving a Bentley at first; he had Bond drive the Aston Martin DB III in the Goldfinger novel, which was much later in the series. When they started creating Bond films, the Aston Martin was Bond's car of choice. The newer films starring Daniel Craig plaid homage to Flemmings writings by showing him driving both a Bentley and Aston Martins in the new films.
In the Alfred Hitchcock hit "The Birds" (1963), Tippi Hedren drove an Aston Martin convertible. It was the car Michael Caine drove in the original "Italian Job" in 1969, which gave the brand even more visibility -- the car chase scenes in that film were very popular at the time. An Aston Martin was also used in the 1971 television show "The Persuaders" by another actor who played James Bond, Sir Roger Moore. The car in that show was a yellow DBS model.
