Up to 15 years for a fancy, and an average of 25 years for a common, but for them to reach those ages, you need serious filtration of DOUBLE the tank capacity. Commons need a tank of at least 55 gallons per fish (or a pond). Fancies need at least 30 gallons for 2 fish.
Oh - and a varied diet of tubiflex worms, daphnia, peas, lettice, flakes/pellets (soak flakes first so that they sink) bloodworm, etc.

I think the average life span of a goldfish is 8-10 yrs, depending on how well you take care of them. The longest living goldfish lived a happy life of 41 years though, so I supose it's possible.

The common aquarium goldfish can live 30 years or more under ideal conditions. An aquarium limits their size, but a pond lets them achieve their maximum growth. Some reach up to two feet in length.

Keep your water pristine, and your fish will live a long, long time. Goldies are dirty and require frequent large water changes. People usually overfeed these guys, and overstock to a fault. Regular maintenance as well as twice annual pest elimination will keep your pets healthy and long-lived.
