I don't think it is going to be a completely new product, I think it is going to be a new direction for the iPhone, evidenced in what looks like "just" an accessory.
Coincidentally, I was giving this a lot of thought this morning, and it just so happens that I wrote a 1600 word blog posting on the topic: http://jaysonelliot.squarespace.com/journal/2008/12/15/will-the-iphone-replace-the-wii.html
Essentially, by the fourth generation of the iPhone (and iPod touch), I believe Apple will make a commitment to the iPhone as a gaming platform. Not just as a handheld device, but as an actual replacement for a home console.
With a little tweaking to its specs and a wireless TV-out connection, the iPhone could realistically compete head to head with the Wii for the living room gaming experience.
The killer product that I expect will be a sled for the iPhone which combines dedicated gaming controls, wireless TV-out, and a battery pack.
It will require a next-gen iPhone update to match, but that's my prediction.
The photo I'm including is of a third-party product that already exists, and doesn't have all the features I'm talking about, but gives some idea of how it might look.

Making access to our data ubiquitous in the home is something that no one has conquered yet, and Apple seems to be well-positioned to take a stab at it.

Or perhaps they will make a game console. The iPod touch is positioned as a mobile gaming device (just look at the ads). Why shouldn't they make something for at home?

The fact that Apple does not yet have a netbook is hurting their business model; there is a HUGE market for "cheap" (or throwaway) laptops. Who wants to travel everyday with their $3,000.00 MacBook Pro. Taking a relatively cheap, reliable (OS X), MacBook Netbook on trips would be a plus that most, if not all, business people who own a Mac would be interested in doing. The day they come out, I will have at least one.
There is speculation in the "blogasphere" that the Apple Netbook will be revolutionary, using a new form-factor that does not require a normal keyboard, but a touch-screen keyboard similar to the IPhone. If anybody is in a position to take laptop's to the next level, it is Apple, and it will happen soon. Be sure to check out the "hypothetical" picture below.

Anyway, current speculation leads to either (a) an iPhone nano, (b) a MacBook Tablet with multi-touch or (c) an ultra-cheap MacNetBook. I personally think that, if it's one of those three, it'll be B.
However, I doubt that there'll really be anything major that they announce this year. I think that they'll just tell us more about Snow Leopard, QuickTime X, the next iLife, things like that.

What will Apple's next killer product be? (bonus points for pictures of an actual prototype).
What is Apple's next (unannounced ) product that is not merely an upgrade to of an existing product line. Only answer if you actually know. Photo documentation gets bonus points.

I think it will be the iBangle. There isn't much information from Apple about it, but I think it will far. I really hope it comes to fruition. Here are some articles about it:

I like the look of this. If I had regular income and they made smaller ones that wouldn't fly from my small wrists (without inflating the inside a ridiculous amount) I'd probably actually wear it. Tech and Jewelery together ftw.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple come out with some sort of heads-up display for the non-computing areas of the home. For example, a display you can put in your kitchen that shows the weather, streams video from the Apple TV or the iPhone in your pocket, other stuff like that. Making access to our data ubiquitous in the home is something that no one has conquered yet, and Apple seems to be well-positioned to take a stab at it.

Some kind of product that revolutionizes personal finances and banking in some way ... for instance a software applet for the IPhone and Mac computers that makes financial management and planning completely intuitive and effortless, or a credit-card like device with GPS tracking that tracks the locations of your purchase.

The next "big" product from Apple will probably be the Apple netbook. This new line of computers would be far cheaper than existing MacBooks and offer several advantages over them: extremely long battery life, relatively inexpensive, open Mac ownership to those unable to purchase a $1,500 laptop, and it will compete with existing netbooks from most laptop manufacturers. The fact that Apple does not yet have a netbook is hurting their business model; there is a HUGE market for "cheap" (or throwaway) laptops. Who wants to travel everyday with their $3,000.00 MacBook Pro.
