ClamXav is a *free* (donation-ware) Mac OS X anti-virus application that's worth a look. You can find it at:
http://www.clamxav.com/

There is also some good information about the need, etc., for anti-virus software on the Mac platform on the front page of that site.
Beyond anti-virus software, the following page provides a nice collection of security-related information and software choices for Mac OS X:

I have personally used the Intego VirusBarrier X5 anti-virus software for about six months now. It's available from:
http://www.intego.com/virusbarrier/
This is a paid application which I got as part of a recent software bundle.
In truth, I haven't yet needed the anti-virus software, and I wouldn't have purchased it if it hadn't come as part of the bundle. But as the popularity of the Mac platform increases, it's likely that viruses will become an increasingly present nuisance, so it certainly doesn't hurt to have some form of protection.

Macworld's Rob Griffiths says - Intego's VirusBarrier is noted as "best for its scanning speed and its well-integrated Mac features."
Intego also offers several Internet security suites in its Internet Security Barrier X4 product family.
Macworld's buying advice:
If you're in the market for a fast-working antivirus program, VirusBarrier X5 (10.5.2) is the gold standard. It will protect your Mac without making your other work grind to a halt. Given that the upgrade price is only $25 more than renewing your virus-definition subscription, which you no doubt will have to do if you have an older version of the program, X5 is well worth the money. The Quarantine Zone offers an added layer of security that in itself is worth the upgrade.
