There are a number of excellent paid applications. It really depends on what kind of application you are looking for.

That being said, here is a marvelous, cheap application that will be helpful to almost anyone no matter what their interests:

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=294706770&mt=8

AppSniper is a 99-cent application that keeps track of what applications have recently been put on sale at the App Store. It will also let you set watches on applications you WOULD buy if they were put on sale, and be notified if they become available at your desired price level. It pays for itself the first time you save money on a sale app with it.

Otherwise, my favored paid apps include:

Easy Relax Ultimate ($2.99) - http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=294216387&mt=8 - a terrific relaxation sound loop/binaural beats program. Also less-featureful versions available free and for 99 cents—but the $2.99 price is hard to pass up.

Checkbook ($1.99) - http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=293962200&mt=8 - Stop trying to read your own handwriting in your check register, and get rid of the headache-inducing chore of balancing your checkbook manually. You've got a computer in your pocket, use it! Lots of features, including reconciliation, multiple account tracking (ever notice how credit cards don't come with check registers?), and exporting. Will more than pay for itself the first time you avoid an overdraft fee from your bank.

Bookshelf ($10) - http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=284934036&mt=8 - A bit of a hefty price, but worth it. A great iPod Touch/iPhone e-book reading application, and the only one that currently reads (non-DRM) Mobipocket files correctly on the iPod/iPhone. Offers direct downloading integration with Baen Webscriptions & Free Library. Also has a free ad-supported version available, BookshelfLT, so you can try before you buy.

What it really comes down to is what you feel you need the most?

As far as games go, SimCity is by far the best I've seen for the iPhone, paid or unpaid. The only one that I could actually play for more than 10-15 minutes at a time without getting bored. I'd imagine it would be awesome for long trips.

Tuner Internet Radio.

With this application you can listen to a whole truckload of Internet Radio Stations. If you find one you want to hear that's not listen on the application, you can add it manually by URL.

So for a small price you have the World of Internet radio in your pocket. It's truly, mind-blowingly, cool.
