Next Question
Has to be rumour at present.
Consider this: one of the biggest challenges with smart-phones is getting adequate battery-life out of them. You make a phone like that smaller and you either have to make it thicker, or you're taking a big hit on battery life.
Consider this also: Make it smaller, you then need to develop versions of all the iPhone Apps that fit on the smaller screen. ..if the battery is smaller, maybe you need to slow down the CPU too? Now you lose the support of the Apps store, because every app that's been made up until now won't work on it, or would need to be reprogrammed. You fragment your whole software market. ..it just don't make good business-sense.
IMHO, if they make another phone, it will be one with a slide-out keyboard for the blackberry junkies that can't handle the screen-keyboard. But they're not going to do that yet. Apple never rushes anything to market, or clutters their product lineup. I give it around another year before they bring out something new.

Why make things more complicated? Apple likes a streamlined process. Complication in the App Store would drive SJ crazy!

Although it will happen eventually, it is a rumor for now, but will be real in a year or two.

Wouldn't application developers would have to make 2 versions of every app they make to account for the differences in hardware, screen size, processor etc?
Apps are a big part of the iPhone's success. Messing around with a system that is doing so well would be a dreadful idea and very un-apple like.
There will no doubt be upgrades to the iPhone in the future, but in my humble opinion, this wont be one of them.

There is no use to releasing excessive devices like a nano iTouch, without removing another device. Remember - Jobs came back and immediately removed most of Apple's devices that are not part of the core group.Technology only get cheaper with time, and there is often no advantage to taking a light portable device like this and shrinking it.
Macworld - maybe a replacement for the mac-mini, the announcement of Snow. Maybe another announcement for iTunes offerings.

Apple wouldn't do a phone without a camera. 4gigs is viable, but I can't see people actually buying it.
Remember the monthly cost is $70 per month. If you can't afford the extra 100 dollars on the onset, what makes you able to pay for it on a monthly basis

• You make good arguments for why an iPhone nano probably isn't going to happen. Thanks for the well thought out answer.

That's just a down-sized/photoshopped image of an original iPhone.
The iPhone nano is not real, and why would they remove the internet from an iPhone? That's the original revolutionary-ness of an iPhone - the internet browser!

the markets for the Ipod and Iphone are hugely different. where apple had time to play around and experiment with the Ipod, it must continue to improve the Iphone in order to remain on top.

False Rumor - Apple has perfected the design of the iPhone. Making a smaller form factor only messes up what the developers have worked on for the original iPhone. Why make things more complicated? Apple likes a streamlined process. Complication in the App Store would drive SJ crazy!

It is real - however, it is only a prototype, and Apple has yet to get its design to where it will be marketable at a price consumers will go for. Unlike the current iPhone, it is designed to fold (allows for screen protection), but where the keypad is on most phones has been replaced with a second (dual) screen. This is why Apple has, in some ways, already declared itself a competitor with the Nintendo DS. Unfortunately, there are problems with bandwidth and reception too, as it is hard to package a small phone with a good antenna into such a small form factor, and those problems will have to be solved before it ever sees the light of day.

Do you have a link that talks about the folding design prototype? I haven't heard that before.

Thanks for the effort, but I don't think this information is correct.
What are your sources for this? Please provide a URL. It doesn't make any sense that Apple would make a flip open phone because the power of the iPhone is the large screen. None of the applications for the iPhone would work on the phone you describe above.

Rumor- It would be very hard, if not impossible, to fit all the electronics in it. The screen would be so small it would be ridiculous to play games or watch movies on it. It would also look funny holding something so small up to your face.

It is probably real, but will not come out for a while. Although it is not too hard to see them branching out, right now it would not be a smart financial move. Although it will happen eventually, it is a rumor for now, but will be real in a year or two.

Come on, it's a rumour! At least for the foreseeable future. Wouldn't application developers would have to make 2 versions of every app they make to account for the differences in hardware, screen size, processor etc?

I doubt it's real. They could make the iPhone thinner, but I can't see the benefit of making the screen significantly smaller. Text would be harder to read, the "keyboard" would be harder to type on, and just overall the benefits of having it be smaller would not be worth the pain.

I think the phone is just a mock-up, as many predictions are for Apple. If you look at pre-show news and pre-announcement details, there is always a prototype lurking about. There is no use to releasing excessive devices like a nano iTouch, without removing another device. Remember - Jobs came back and immediately removed most of Apple's devices that are not part of the core group.Technology only get cheaper with time, and there is often no advantage to taking a light portable device like this and shrinking it.

The iPhone nano is somewhere in between rumour and real. There can be no doubt that Apple will produce a smaller lighter cheaper phone at some point in the future. If you want to know whether Apple is introducing an iPhone Nano next month the answer is no. They are eating up market share like a pitbull on pork chops with a little box that peple are having no problem shelling out good money for. The last thing they need is a phone with a low margin Walmart price.

Rumor, because until Apple provides an indication that it might be real, it is a rumor by definition.

Fake: Based on the price and possible specifications what would posses someone for getting a iphone nano. The counter argument is the walmart deal for $99, however, what specifications would be removed? Apple wouldn't do a phone without a camera. 4gigs is viable, but I can't see people actually buying it.

True, but misleading. The iPod nano will be the first injectable MP3 player. Rumor has it that this new method is the most authentic way to listen to the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and many other great bands. Also, the new beta features a web browser that is controlled via the gall bladder. -HumblePieman

The iphone nano may or may not be real. There are reports of Chinese companies developing cases for an iphone nano, and these reports have been fairly accurate in the past. At a guess, it may not include wi-fi, and may not be 3g, as those require a large battery, which is a limiting factor in a case that small. Expect a cheaper, lower quality screen and less overall performance, possibly with limited or no web browser, marketed as largely a smaller ipod/phone mixed experience, if it ever comes out. I sincerely doubt the device would fold, as every rumor so far points to iphone, just smaller.
