How do you get music off an Ipod if the battery won't hold a charge?

This is the perfect storm. We have an Ipod which wil only function when plugged into the wall--the computer current is not strong enough to charge it. The computer crashed--meaning the several thousand songs exist only on the Ipod. We have the software to move the music back from the Ipod to the computer--but can't operate the Ipod unless its plugged into the wall.

Apple doesn't replace batteries--just gives you a refurbished Ipod in return--so we need to get all the music off the Ipod before sending it back.

Apple make a universal dock which allows you to connect to your computer and a power outlet at the same time. This should let you get power into the ipod and allow you to transfer your songs.

The Apple version costs $49 but there are 3rd part options available that would probably be cheaper

Are you going through a USB hub or directly to the back of the computer? Try plugging the iPod directly into the back of the computer with no cord or anything.

Yes, the Ipod is plugged directly into the USB

While Apple does not replace batteries on the iPod, you can and relatively inexpensively. Do a search for iPod battery replacement. You're better off replacing the battery anyway.
