edit: I was writing my post when ifixit was mentioned above. I am still confident that using it as a starting place should be enough if you have any experience taking laptops apart. From the powerbooks I have disassembled I don't remember the LCDs as having as many hard to find screws or tricky steps. Just look all around the sides and remove the screws you see.
Now that I think about it, search for how to replace the apple logo with colored filters since that will require you to take apart the LCD.

How do I take apart a 17" G4 Powerbook LCD casing?

That doesn't show how to take apart the LCD casing, just tells you how to remove the entire LCD assembly from the PowerBook.

If I remember correctly there should be screws that you can remove from the sides of the screen. The link I am posting should be a good enough place to start (it has excellent pictures) to help you fully disassemble the powerbook so that you can get to the LCD components you are interested in. edit: I was writing my post when ifixit was mentioned above.
