Ribs are a bitch. Can I say that? Only thing that heals a bone is not moving it. Don't breath heavy, use good posture and when moving, turn whole body by moving feet. Time and no movement is what heals ribs. Good Luck.

I'll second this advice. I was "lucky" enough to crack a rib a few years ago, and found that nothing really helped except frequent wincing for a few weeks. After that, everything was fine. Good luck!

Sadly, there isn't much you can do to speed-up your recovery. Your best bet is to get lots and lots of rest and to not push yourself to do too much too soon. Rib injuries usually take several weeks to heal properly. I wish you a speedy recovery! I've been there, and I know how painfully uncomfortable it can be.

There isn't much you CAN do. Honestly, even going to the doc is optional if they are just cracked. All they will do is tell you to take it easy for a few weeks and give you some ibuprofren for the pain...the good ones will give your lungs a listen for fluids to make sure you didn't puncture a lung(unlikely if it's just cracked).

I always just went on with my day as normal, just less movement/bending, and whatever you do...DON'T SNEEZE!!!! Or laugh, or cough, or breath too deeply in general...but sneezing was always the worst. You might even consider sleeping in a recliner if you have one, I found that laying down I was more prone to roll over in my sleep and my elbow would always find the tender spot. Ice never helped much, but a heating pad seemed to dull it a bit. Good luck man...I feel your pain.

Do remember that the rib cage's purpose is to protect the internal organs, so better to go the doctor's right away just in case.

From my own experience though, I can tell you that a cracked rib could take about 3 weeks to recover. It'll hurt like heck during the first few days, but as long as you don't strain it or do anything rash with it, you'll be fine.

If it really hurts bad, take some ibuprofen. Other then that, there really isn't much to do about it.

There really isn't a lot one can do for a cracked rib. Cracked ribs hurt when you breathe, and take up to 5 weeks to heal -- sometimes more. Painkillers and ice packs are your salvation. Try hard not to do alot irritate the wound.

Cracked ribs are very painful and for the most part they just heal on their own. Try to restrict movement, avoid lifting heavy things, and make sure you have a good sleep posture.
Apparently you can tape the are to restrict movement: http://www.ehow.com/how_10228_treat-rib-fracture.html but I'm skeptical about this.
Take a pain reliever like Ibuprofen and just wait. It should take a couple of weeks.
It is also important to cough and take deep breaths often in order to prevent injury to the lungs.

From WebMD:
A fractured rib usually takes at least 6 weeks to heal. To help manage the pain while the fracture heals:

* Put ice on the injured area.
* Get extra rest.
* Take pain medicine such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Your doctor may prescribe a stronger pain medicine if over-the-counter medicines don't work.

While you are healing, it is important to cough or take the deepest breath you can at least once an hour. This can help prevent pneumonia or a partial collapse of the lung tissue.

Yeah. I had never heard about the wrapping thing. My mom fractured a rib not too long ago and the doctor just said to wait and do breathing exercises.
I'm skeptical about the wrapping thing but I found it so I decided I might as well add it.

They don't wrap ribs anymore...it really doesn't help. I broke mine back when they still wrapped them, then a few times after they stopped. There really wasn't any difference in healing time nor discomfort.
