OUT, a gay and lesbian pop culture magazine, listed the 50 Most Powerful Queer People of 2008 on their Web site, OUT.com.

Out of the 50, 14 women were on the list:

I think Ellen DeGeneres is. :) Media is a powerful tool that influences people. And since Ellen is a TV personality, she is somehow powerful. She inspires others and influence them to feel good about themselves.

Okay I wouldn't call Ellen powerful, maybe the most popular (not counting Oprah who we all know is having an affair with her "best friend" Gail, only a matter of time before she comes out) but seriously Ellen has no real power. I would say that Tammy Baldwin is the lesbian with the most power in this country. She is currently one of only 3 openly gay people who have ever been elected to congress the others are both men (Barney Franks and the 33 year old gay millionaire Jared Pollis of Colorado) Tammy Baldwin the congresswoman from Wisconsin is the only openly out lesbian in congress, congress has great power, so if we are going by power not popularity she would be the one.
