How was British rule over colonial America similar to self-rule of the colonies between 1783-1800?

I have an old APUSH FRQ and i'm really stuck with this one.

"Between 1783 and 1800, the new government of the United States faced the same political, economic, and constitutional issues that troubled the British government's relations with the colonies prior to the Revolution. Assess the validity of this generalization."

All I can think of is how Hamilton wanted taxes, similar to Britain...that's about it, sadly. Can anyone give me some ideas? I'll write my own essays, I just need something to build upon.

The main thing I remember from my AP class was Salutary Neglect (Policy of avoiding strict punishment). It occured throughout three time periods. 1607-1696, 1696-1763, and 1763-1775.
