I'm another that thinks she shouldn't have made it that far. When he really tried to sing, the man could sing. But the whole comedy routine belong on that stupid show with David Hasselhoff, the English guy (the one who got second place in the first Celebrity Apprentice) and Sharon Osbourne. Ohhh! I remember, it's America's Got Talent.
American Idol is supposed to be a singing show, not a comedy act. While he was hilarious and I laughed until I think I tinkled on myself, it's just not the right show for Norm.

He came off as a nice guy with a funny act on TV. His next stop should be a comedy tour. If he refines that act a bit and gets some real material together, he could do Last Comic Standing.
But he never would have won. When compared to some of the real talent on the show, he was there for comic relief. But I'm sure it's not the last we'll see of him.
I would like it a lot if he showed up at So You Think You Can Dance and called himself "sex" :)

Plus, if he had made it, there was probably a good chance that he would get a Sanjaya-like following *shudder*.
Of course, there's always a chance for him to be a wild card. Maybe he would get picked for sheer entertainment value, but I would be kinda disappointed if that were to happen.

They can say he's entertaining all they want, but the success at the end of it all is whether he sells CDs and gets radio play. And his comedy act won't do that.

Do you agree with the decision regarding Nick Mitchell / Normund Gentle on American Idol tonight? (SPOILERS)
I really enjoyed Nick's performance last night on American Idol:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWN4yVpxQi4
I think his performance took a lot of courage--to be unique and different.
But he did not make it to the Top 12.
One part of me says "he's not really American Idol material" while another says "he entertained me more than the other 23 I've seen."
What do you think?

The judges and Secrest would have just made fun of him until he left. He came off as a nice guy with a funny act on TV. His next stop should be a comedy tour. If he refines that act a bit and gets some real material together, he could do Last Comic Standing.

lol - he should show up to SYTYCD and tell the Judges that he's Sex's brother, "Lust"... and then do his dance act.
He already knows Nigel.... I bet he'd get on TV and if he can pretend to dance as well as he did sing, well you never know.

I mis-spoke a bit there.
I think that he could sing too. His act influenced his singing. That's closer to what I was thinking.

I agree completely. He's really entertaining, but he could never be the American Idol, because he doesn't have *that* strong of a voice, and his personality is too strange to be it. In the end, he'd only be taking the spot from someone who deserved it more. Plus, if he had made it, there was probably a good chance that he would get a Sanjaya-like following *shudder*.

Of course. He should never have gotten that far, but the producers I'm sure require that they put through a certain amount of "television"-friendly contestants to keep it interesting before the audience voting begins. They can say he's entertaining all they want, but the success at the end of it all is whether he sells CDs and gets radio play. And his comedy act won't do that.

Yes, I agree with Nick/Norman getting the boot. His whole skit was getting a bit ridiculous and turning AI into a joke. He may have been entertaining for some people, but he's not right for this venue. They're not looking for the best comedy skit, they're looking for the best singer.
