Am watching "Cash Cab." I learned something new. Anyone know the definition of "umlaut?" I was the ONLY one to not know - even Evan knew!!
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$Linguistically, I believe it means that you take the back of the mouth vowel and say the front of the mouth equivalent, while still keeping your lips as if you were saying the original vowel.

I agree - "Cash Cab" is great! And the umlaut does seem to be a mostly German thing.
