One time, about a year ago, I was carrying a plate of cannoli, steaming hot from the microwave, and I accidentally spilled the bubbling cheese and sauce on my bare chest. The cheese and sauce burned into my skin, up under my right breast and then down into 'drips' on my belly. The burns were so bad that when I tried to wipe the cheese and sauce off my chest, and the skin was sloughing off with it. I finally got it cleaned, but they were probably at least second degree burns, with probably some third degree areas there too.

So you can imagine that this probably hurt pretty bad. I figured it was going to be excruciatingly painful and I also figured it would leave a bad scar.

My best friend told me to put Lavender Essential Oil on the burn. I'd had a bottle she gave me as a gift but hadn't used it yet. I poured it on - it stung just a little bit, and then, the pain went away.

I've never had a burn like this one before and I've had burns less than this one that were just horrible in the pain I felt, but the Lavender completely killed the pain, without pain meds or pills. I was shocked. It took a couple of weeks, but except for a very slight discoloration of the skin, I have no scar either. It did, however, make me sleepy!

I swear by this stuff now.

I also like to mix it with some water and mist it on my pillows on the bed.

• Thank you for your real-life example of how well lavender essential oil worked on burns for you. I am very pleased that you did not have severe scarring!

I Love Lavender Essential Oil. Relieves stress and depression and is beneficial for the skin. Good for burns, headaches, psoriasis and skin problems. Essenial Lavender oil is very popular in aromatherapy.

To combat restlessness and aid in a good nights sleep, I place lavender oil in a small container near my bed.
