Effective alternative cold remedy?

I've got a stuffy/runny nose, chest congestion, and an occasional cough and sneeze. Are there any good cold remedies that can help alleviate my symptoms other than the over-the-counter pills and liquids? If it can help shorten the duration of my cold, that's a bonus.

Try a neti pot. Oprah and Dr. Oz swear by them. If that doesn't convince you, this New York Times article corroborates the fact that it'll help your stuffed up nose:

• Both answers were great, very hard choice.

A similar alternative to the neti pot is the nasopure. The nasopure has the same affect as the neti while being easier to use.

I have been using zinc at the first sign of a cold. If anything it does lessen the length of the cold and at times the severity. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8942045, the zinc compound found in lozenges works the best. A bit of vitamin C at the first sign of a cold and B complex helps your body with the stress the virus puts on your body. May help your body fight the virus and hopefully help you feel better. (I'm not a medical doctor or pharmacist).
