Does raw cucumber help a sore throat?
Whenever we had a sore throat growing up, my parents would have us munch on a raw chunk of cucumber. Does any one know if this is proven to be helpful or a household myth? What's the best remedy you know for soothing a sore throat?

Cucumber juice is beneficial for internal inflammations, including a sore throat or kidney flare-ups. Organically grown cucumbers have the best flavour and do not need peeling. Their skins contain chlorophyll and silicon, two beneficial nutrients that are lost when the vegetable is peeled.

Yes, its supposed to help. I still prefer using Neocitrin to help my cold symptoms though.

For sore throats and coughs, try good old honey, right from the spoon or in some hot tea. Our pediatrician has told us that local honey (and that is the key to the effectiveness) is a very good cough 'medicine'. Honey is known to be one of the most effective natural sore throat soothers. The local pollen (in the honey makeup) and your own exposure to the pollen in your region make local honey more effective as a natural remedy than honey shipped from another part of the country. My source is my Doctor and personal experience but I've also included links with some further information.
Another great reason to buy locally.
I've never heard about the raw cucumber! Did it work? Hope you feel better.

Wow, from the answers above, raw cucumber is a real remedy. I still think I'd prefer some honey in my tea :)
