Florida Gators are doomed. It is all over the place that Alex Tyus is leaving Florida, but not much out there in regards to where he might be going. Before committing to Florida, he was recruited and offered by Miami, Tennessee and Arizona.
He averaged 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore last year at Florida.
Actually, two down seasons. Florida this year became the first team in NCAA history to follow back-to-back national championships with back-to-back NIT appearances. And now Donovan is going through a mutual divorce with several of his players to get his program back on track. It continued Friday, with the announcement that Tyus, the team's leading rebounder and best post player, will be leaving the program.
In recent weeks, Calathes has entered his name into the NBA Draft, while freshman Allan Chaney opted to transfer out and incoming recruit DeShawn Painter reneged on his written commitment to Florida. Lucas transferred at the beginning of the season, while Marreese Speights left the team last summer, as did Jonathan Mitchell.
On Friday, Donovan did not cite a reason for Tyus' departure, only that Tyus was not as committed to the Gators as Donovan had hoped.
