Scotch unopened usually has a very long shelf life. However, when exposing it to heat over 70 degrees Fahrenheit could possibly damage the quality of the scotch. It's better to leave it away from any direct sources of heat. If the living room fluctuates over 70 degrees Fahrenheit, then you should keep it out of the living room. I would recommend keeping it in the refrigerator, but you do not need to keep it in the freezer.

It would be best to store it in its original box to keep it away from the sunlight, as light will damage its quality and speed up its deterioration.

Since you already opened the scotch, it's best that you keep the cap closed tightly after pouring the drink, as quickly as you can since the air oxidizes scotch and it will not taste its best.

So, if you leave it in the living room, it's recommended you store it in the box with the cap closed below temperatures of 70 degrees Fahrenheit. If you do that, it will last a long time. Although, according to the temperatures mentioned, I would recommend you store it in the refrigerator to make the scotch last longer and taste better when you're ready to drink it next.
