It absolutely does not affect the taste and it is absolutely fine. I have been doing this for about 10 years. It does not freeze. Well, I should say,
24 proof liquor freezes at -6.7°C (20°F)
64 proof liquor freezes at -23.33°C (-10°F)
84 proof liquor freezes at -34.44°C (-30°F)
Take the freezer challenge!

I've never tried it personally. But then when I drank, I drank whiskey.

There seems to be a discussion about that here; http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=698575

You can freeze it but it can affect the taste. If it’s a standard rum 40% of it is alcohol and 60% is other ingredients most of which is water; while it wont freeze the other ingredients will contract slightly so when you pour it straight from the freezer there will be slightly more of the other ingredients then alcohol. This is why professional bartenders do not keep liquor in the freezer. If you want it colder you can fill a Boston shaker (metal) with ice then dump out the ice and fill it with the liquor.

This is just a personal experience, but I have kept a bottle of captain morgan in the freezer for a number of months, and we bring it out whenever we need, and it seems fine. As long as you mix it with something, I don't think there's a big problem with it.
