I would definitely file it under the year released. This is going to be the date that is usually given in official descriptions and information. So if you're ever trying to cross-reference, this will be the date that will match most other sources.

When organizing songs on iTunes, does it make more sense to file it under the year recorded or year released?
A while ago I asked a question about organizing live songs:
http://www.mahalo.com/answers/albums/when-organizing-live-songs-on-itunes-should-you-sort-by-year-recorded-or-year-released
This is a similar question, but it is also very different. In this question, I'm not talking about live recordings. For example, Bob Dylan's "The Basement Tapes" was recorded in 1967, but not released until 1975. When organizing my iTunes music should I put the year on the album "1967" or "1975"? There's no right or wrong answer. I just want to know what you think.
