Question about the Airport Extreme HD

I have been using the Airport Extreme and was wondering if the hard drive or file server feature works with UNIX or Linux. If anyone has used it with Unix or Linux can you tell me how you did it or if there is any work arounds I need to do? Mac is BSD or UNIX so I'm thinking It should work, but is the Airport Extreme using a protocol that is not available for UNIX/Linux?
