morriss003 mentioned it, but I thought I'd expand on it further: I have used kayak.com myself and know many many people that swear by it now for booking their airfare and don't even mess around with any other sites. It searches over 140 sites for the best prices, and it's never let me down, whether I'm planning ahead or have to book something extremely last minute. Forget priceline or hotwire, kayak is the way to go.

All the sites already listed are great resources, but I thought I'd just throw this tidbit out there. Some airlines will let you buy steeply discounted fares directly from them for travel related to deaths. I've heard these called "Grievance fares" I think they require some sort of documentation and you may only qualify if you are a certain relationship to the deceased, but the airlines might be willing to make an exception (especially now).

Good luck!
