I just redeemed a ticket with the miles I accrued on my Delta Skymiles card. You should know that you must book the flight 21 days in advance in order to have the "redemption fee" waived (link 1 below), and you generally need to accumulate 25,000 miles in order to get a free round-trip ticket anywhere in the continental United States. Also, the rate at which you accrue miles depends on the type of card you have (i.e. standard, gold, platinum, etc.)--the better the card the higher the annual fee (link 2 below).
