AIM instant messaging application for windows mobile that sends messages over SMS and not data plan.

I used to own an Erricson z310 cell phone, and the built-in IM client on it would log me into my AIM account, but send messages through SMS. I just got a blackjack running windows mobile, and so far all the IM clients that I can find want to use my data plan, and since I am on a GoPhone plan, this does not work well for me.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Ok here are a few possible solutions.

1. Enable AIM forwarding. You can do this through your AIM client on any computer by logging in, and then going to settings and then clicking on the mobile tab. This will allow you to receive AIM messages as SMS messages, and you can respond to them the same way you would an SMS message. The problem with this is it does not provide an AIM client, so you can't initiate conversations as far as I know.

2. http://mobile.aol.com/articles/2008/02/12/access-aim-on-your-phone-step-by-step-directions/
This is AOL's website which explains how to get their AIM client on your phone. I assume this is the old client you had which sends messages through SMS. It claims to work with windows mobile so hopefully this will work for you.

I don't think solution 1 would work because I actually want to log in to my AIM account on the phone and see my buddy list.

You can try Yeigo http://adjix.com/73xh

" The Yeigo mobile application also does free IM and enables you to chat directly on your mobile phone with other Yeigo users and friends on other IM networks, GoogleTalk, MSN, Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ and Jabber. They don’t need to have Yeigo for you to chat with them, you simply import your contacts into Yeigo."

I think AIM has a short code so you can IM over SMS. I can't seem to find the information for the short code right now, but I do remember using AIM in this fashion a few years ago.
