Rhinitis is another name for the common cold, which is caused by a virus. There is no cure for the common cold, at least not yet, but there are steps one can take to reduce discomfort, and to help the body's immune system fight off the virus.

- Get proper rest
- Drink lots of fluids
- Get proper nutrition
- If needed, take over-the-counter medication to reduce fever and any pain

To reduce the risk of infection (rhinitis, flu, etc.) from exercise machines, or recirculated air at a gym, wash your hands frequently, and use disinfecting wipes to wipe down machines before using them (and after using them, as a courtesy to others).

Thanks for the response, Opher. I think my condition is caused by the release of excess histamines brought on by strenuous cardiovascular activity. I'm not sure why it happens, but it seems to be common (or, at least not uncommon) among runners. Some have suggested that it's a condition that disappears once cardiovascular endurance is increased, while others have suggested taking antihistamines before exercising. Just wanted to know if there's anyone out there that has experienced similar symptoms and treated them with success.
Thanks, again!

It sounds like an allergy condition if histamines are involved. Here's something a cyclists claims works like a charm:

"this problem is caused by Vasomotor Rhinitis, and a prescription nasal spray called Atrovent, generic name of ipratropium can help. I finally went to the doctor and remembered to ask about this. He gave me an Rx and I tried it today. OMG. It works. It’s a miracle cure." (from http://www.triathlontrainingblog.com/?p=769 ).
