Regardless of whether "The Karate Kid" should be remade, I don't think Jackie Chan is a good enough actor to portray Mister Miyagi.
Pat Morita played Mister Miyagi with many subtle layers. Jackie Chan has never been associated with the word "subtle", the closest being "stumble".
Whats next? Getting Dane Cook to remake Ace Ventura? or
Paris Hilton to remake Breakfast at Tiffanys?
Jackie Chan should focus on his strengths and remake a Buster Keaton movie like "The Cameraman"

THE KARATE KID DOES NOT NEED TO BE REMADE.
A) This movie is already great, an 80's classic.
B) It's only 25 years old!
It's really disheartening that people can't seem to be coming up with their own fresh ideas in Hollywood anymore. Seriously, what 80's movie is next? The Goonies? Breakfast Club? Back to the Future? There is a reason these movies are still talked about 20-30 years later, because they were great the first time around, so KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF Hollywood!
Jackie Chan just needs to stick to the Rush Hour franchise..I'm sure there are 4 or 5 more left in him..although I remember reading somewhere that he hates doing those movies, and only does it for the paycheck.

Also there's the simple fact that Miyagi is Japanese and Chan is Chinese, it's NOT the same!

I saw Will Smith on the BBC Breakfast show this morning and he was talking about his son doing the remake of the Karate Kid. There does not seem to be a video online of this interview as of yet. As soon as there is I can post it here. I think Jackie Chan and Jaden smith is a winning combination. I love Jackie Chan, if anyone should do it, I say it should be him.

Okay..I went on a rant about this on a message board yesterday, but I'll try to keep myself a little more subdued here.. THE KARATE KID DOES NOT NEED TO BE REMADE.

Jackie Chan is mainly a comedic actor (especially in Chinese films, where his acting is a generally a step above his American films.) I don't think he'd suit the more serious nature of Mr. Miyagi. Plus, Jackie Chan really isn't that old. Also there's the simple fact that Miyagi is Japanese and Chan is Chinese, it's NOT the same!

I don't think Jackie Chan should remake the Karatie Kid. I don't think anyone should remake the Karate Kid, or most of the other remakes that tend to be circulating through the lack of creativity in hollyweird's mind. I'd like to see Jackie Chan continue writing and creating unique films based on his own life, knowledge and experience, rather than hop on the trashy remake bandwagon.
