Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You should really see a doctor, you may have ruptured your eardrum, or caused an impaction (plugged up your ear with wax). You'll need a doctor to take a look in your ear and remove the wax or treat the injury.

If you did rupture your eardrum, the good news is that it should heal within 1-2 weeks. Hearing loss is usually temporary and lasts only until the tear, rip or hole heals. You may notice liquid discharge (with puss or blood).

Until you can see your doctor, the Mayo Clinic suggests keeping your ears dry to prevent infection. "When you shower or bathe, put a cotton ball coated with petroleum jelly in the "pocket" of your outer ear to keep water out. Don't put any medication drops in your ear." Also avoid blowing your nose.

So go see your doctor right away! For more info, see the sources below. Hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, and doctors tell you NOT TO USE Q-Tips inside the ear-- not ever!

My doctor told me all I need to do to clean my ears is let warm (not hot) water from the shower hit my ears (directly) for at least 30-40 seconds (each ear) each time you shower (preferably several times per week), and you won't get ear wax build up. Make sure you let the water run for at least 30 seconds-- each ear.

But you should only do this after your ears are healed and after the Doctor gives you an OK. Hope you went to the doctor. Ear infections are very painful.
And I have found that just letting clear water run into my ear, no added pressure works just fine.
You can gently clean your outer ear with soap and water, but there is no need to use q-tips or jam soap into the canal.

This is probably starting to sound like a broken record, but I would seek medical attention as soon as humanly possible. There are numerous delicate constructions in the ear, notably the eardrum, that could have been damaged.

My wife is an Audiologist and this is one of her pet peeves. I have to sneak q-tips into my ears to clean them.

jmbrown is correct, and if I had to pick one of the two possibilities, you ruptured your eardrum. Either way, you need to seek immediate medical attention. If you can't get in to an ENT (Ear-Nose-Throat) doctor, go to the ER or your general physician in order to get referred to an ENT.
