One thing you can do is look at what will be going on 2-3 months from now...
The reason I say that is it gives you plenty of time to position your pages to benefit from all the traffic that will be going on. This is if you plan on being in for the long term, though.
As an Internet marketer, I look at seasonal things this way. For instance... many people make New Year's resolutions... think about the kinds of things those will be. I bet a lot of How To's about weight loss or money would be a big hit.
How To Choose a Safe Diet
How To Count Calories
How To Shop Healthy and Save Money
How To Lose A Dress Size in One Week
How To Pay Down Debt
How To Get Out of Debt
How To Spend Less and Still Live Well
How To Get Rid of Your Credit Cards
You get the idea... I didn't do any keyword research on any of those terms above, so I don't know if those will get searched on exactly, and I don't know if those pages exist, either... =)
And if anyone is not on the How To Team, there is still room for you, or other related topic pages should do well also.
Travel always gets a lot of searches... and there are peak travel times in the year... the holidays, spring break, summer vacation season.
And don't even get me started on brides... you have those that go all out and those that look for frugal deals... lots you can do with that. Weddings are year round, but you still have the classic June weddings and many people get married on Valentine's Day.
And you can combine ideas... like weddings and travel.
On Mahalo, you have the unique opportunity to see what is doing well for others. Look at those making money and see which of their pages make the most. If that is something that interests you, then see if there is something you can do that is related to it.
For instance, when I started here, Bed Bath and Beyond Coupons was doing well, just as it is now... however, though the page was made, no one was managing the page for the store Bed Bath and Beyond, so I claimed it. I improved the page that was there... added video, changed the text and layout, did some inlinking, relateds, tweaked the SEO, etc. Now it has made more than any other single page I have.
There are still a lot of opportunities here for those that look for them. Existing pages that should be claimed... new related pages that can be made, and whole verticals we haven't even begun yet.
And if anyone needs specific help with research or ideas, send me a direct question... I'm always glad to give suggestions. =)

This directory allows me to follow a lot of different sources of information in a variety of areas, Technology, Entertainment, US and World News, Sports, Music, Comedy, Deals and .. Shopping. (those are the groups I follow)
I think this will be helpful now and in the future in determining what people are talking about and what gadgets and events are upcoming or gaining popularity.
Following all of these groups is quite a task of organization and my TweetDeck tweet notification is almost constantly reminding me of incoming tweets but there is tons of information out there and TweetDeck does a great job of making sure I get and can see it all.

Those two pages will give you what the buzz/hot topics on the internet are for that day. Some of the topics can be made evergreen or long lasting by the way they are worded in the article or on the mahalo page.
Another thing to look at when thinking of hot topics are personal likes/hobbies with groups surrounding them. Are you a fan of authors who have a large fan base? You might want to consider pages on the author as well as the books. I did this for Anne Rice and The Vampire Chronicles which are both earning me money on a continuous basis because of the fan following.
Do you like to quilt, play sports, watch news? Any of those things can generate hot topic ideas for pages that can bring in the money.

These are well searched topics on many sites and in the google search. People love to learn how to take better care of themselves, so health is very big. With the recession, personal finance is a huge concern. How to save money is a very popular search. Social media combined with tech and gadgets--always a big hit.

I see you are managing almost 150 pages right now. Is there any page that you already have that you thoroughly enjoy updating and marketing? If there is, the use http://www.Kosmix.com/ to get a list of topics 'Related in the Kosmos' and create Mahalo pages to build out a category of pages that are all related.
Having a number of pages that are all related in a given category helps you in a number of ways.
1) You read and research in a general topic area and get information to update a set up pages. Basically becoming a subject matter expert.
2) You manage and market a theme page. You market the main theme and get traffic for the set of pages.
3) You cross link all your related pages, so traffic to one is traffic potential for all.
4) You tweet, digg, twine, getglue, facebook, reddit, stumbleupon, delicious a single topic and become a known expert/trusted linker.
Explore the big picture, focus on the details that bring it together.

Are you thinking why I am not claiming? Actually, lesleic did not increase my page limit upto 20 pages. So I have no way to claim it without leave another one.
Hey, why do you not view the USA event calender? I just viewed it and found that Eid-al-Adha is coming, then claimed it and will start to work on it.
I also use google trend yesterday, I found "Nikon coolpix s300(forget actual model name)" and requested this page to build because mahalo has no page with that.
Mahalo has not too much great funny pages. But twiterdeck says that peoples finding related humor or jokes content amount of 30% of total.
Keep close eye, which block buster hit game's next version is coming. Gaming page's ads are often rich.
Same speech about movies, keep your eye open which upcoming movie going to super hit so request it before the relies date.
Any upcoming technology already announced ? Like google OS. Keep stay with these pages.
Actually any page can be hited if you can do that. Like my How to become a stage actor page was visited 0-2 every day!! But now google analytics says that now it visited 30-60 even 80/90 everyday. Although the raising is recently started. Do you know why? Because my all content has been re written by another member, named ritzy. She reformed my content in native and smooth English. Used title related words. Used synonym words, to avoid repeat of same word. Video and image description changed according native English style. My all content is same of before just style and words are changed to make is more smooth and comfortable to read. Then It is now going well. So???? Try your pages.

Whatever you create a page about, make it the best resource available online. Find the current best page online about the topic and make yours noticeably better. If you do this, you will be amazed at how quickly Google sees your page and how many people will recommend the page to their friends.

Hook Google Analytics up to your account. Review your top traffic pages. Make them better and brainstorm other page titles based on those high traffic pages. Mahalo calls this "flooding the zone". By creating supporting pages, your high traffic (and high earning) pages will rank higher and traffic will increase.

Give me some ideas on finding some good topic pages to create with high search volume.
According to the new system, we can request to complete pages at Mahalo like tasks. Please give me some topics/categories with good search volume that I can request under to claim some tasks.
E.g : Gadgets, Cell Phones ... etc.

I have been trying to estimate what will be and what is popular by using Twitter specifically Tweetdeck and the Tweet Deck Directory. http://www.tweetdeck.com/beta/

There are many ways to find out what topics are hot now. You can use Google Trends http://www.google.com/trends Yahoo Buzz! http://buzz.yahoo.com

I think that popular topics right now are in the areas of personal finance, health and tech. Personal finance---saving money, using coupons, finding bargains, lowering expenses. Tech--cell phones, gadgets, social media. Health - living longer, diet, exercise. These are well searched topics on many sites and in the google search. People love to learn how to take better care of themselves, so health is very big. With the recession, personal finance is a huge concern. How to save money is a very popular search. While looking for high search traffic pages to create seems like a good idea, you will be competing with many others for search engine rank, so you will need to create the best topic pages on the internet and market them successfully to get traffic and earn ad revenue.
