Meet the Mahaloian of the Week: DrMatt!
Yes! Mahalo Answers veteran and one of the first Brown Belts, @drmatt is today's Mahaloian of the Week. Be sure to check out Dr. Matt's podcast related to health and wellness here. On-line/blog: http://tinyurl.com/kcpodcastblog
http://www.flickr.com/photos/33749589@N07/3518918811/
The Doctor was able to do us the honour by answering a few questions, so read on and learn a bit more about this great contributor to Mahalo Answers.
Q: Where are you from and where are you now?
A: I was born in Northern California and have pretty much lived in Northern California (San Francisco East Bay) my entire life. My office is in Livermore, CA...
Q: How did you hear about Mahalo Answers?
A: I'm a listener of the This Week in Tech podcast and had heard Jason Calacanis a number of times. Although he was brash at times.. okay... often... he always impressed me with his creativity and business acumen (and the way he handles John C. Dvorak). When he mentioned this new project called Mahalo Answers, it sounded fun. I enjoy being on the ground floor of things, so I thought I'd see what was up. I've been hooked ever since.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about Mahalo Answers?
A: As with all my other activities, I love to help people. I also love to feel like a big fish in a little pond. Sometimes... okay... often my ego needs to be taken care of.
Q: What feature can't you wait for?
A: I am SO done with unclear questions. I'm totally looking forward to making comments on the questions themselves and having the question-asker add missing information.
Q: If you could have any job, which one would it be and why?
A: Interestingly, I'm in my ideal job. As a therapist, in general, I get to set my own hours and make enough money to keep me in a California home and my wife and kids fed.
I REALLY like my job because it's always different. I get to meet unique people and help them uncover the solutions they already have within them. Not only that, I am always challenged - directly by my clients and also to see if I can understand the worldview from my client's perspective.
I've learned so much and continue to learn... it's always an experience.
If I had some money, I would LOVE to start my own themed restaurant. I've primarily performed as a magician going from table to table at a number of restaurants in the area and have fantasized about the magic/spy themed restaurant I would create. I'd love it! Unfortunately, I have zero experience running a restaurant... oh well...
Q: What do you do to make the world around you a better place?
A: I get to change the world one person at a time though my work, but I primarily make the world a better place by being a good parent. I want my kids to continue to demonstrate to others good (in my opinion) behaviors and spread the word. If I see my kids communicate well (again, as I define it), then my work here is done!
Q: Favorite movie, TV show, band and book?
A: Movie: Star Wars: A New Hope (I remember seeing it the day it opened. Yes... I'm that old.)
TV Show: Judge Judy
Band: I'm a man of the 80's. ANY band from the 80's. If I HAD to pick... 80's Depeche Mode. No... The Police... No wait... Simple Minds... AAAAHHH!
Book: The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. Actually two trilogies + two recent ones, but this whole series was so wonderful.
Q: What do you do when you're not answering questions?
A: When I'm not answering questions, I'm LOOKING for questions to answer.
When I'm not futzing around Mahalo Answers, I enjoy lots of other activities: I'm developing a new mentalism show right now (I used to be a professional magician). I haven't performed in years, so I'm ready to get back out and play.
Q: What avatars do you look forward to seeing when you click on a question? Who are your favourite Mahaloians?
A: I look forward to seeing everyone! I take notice of those who answer... and answer well. I also take notice of those who answer poorly... I'm sorry not to see some people as much anymore - @spoon, @connectedgeek and, sadly, Darcy. They all contribute great answers, but I haven't seen them as much.
I DO NOT look forward to seeing @tracebooks in answers! She and I have been dueling for the past couple months and she keeps getting ahead of me! Infuriating to say the least.
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to a new Mahalo Answers user who wants to be as successful as you, what would that be?
A: Don't worry about making money here. Focus on answering questions well in the areas of your expertise or knowledge. If you do this, the money will follow... If you come from a place of giving, the Law of Attraction dictates that you will receive...
But, everything can be summed up by the following movie quote:
Dr. Meredith: A bit of advice...
Mitch: Oh, uh, thank you...
Dr. Meredith: Always... no, no... never... forget to check your references.
Mitch: Uh... ok... thank you. I'd better be going.
leaves
Dr. Meredith: his wife I think the young people enjoy it when I "get down" verbally, don't you?

Yes! Yes! A toast to Dr. Matt, M.A., Ph.D., M.F.T., (and a B.M.F. besides as Cheech and Chong used to say)

I too have not been around due to work (I work at a big bank that was recently purchased so I have to brown nose as much as possible as we go through the whole merger since we are now the 5th largest bank in the country), misc. online projects (shameless plug... http://www.vhopnation.com) and the record label I work for releasing a new CD and tour for the summer requiring lots of marketing time away from home... I would much rather devote my time to MA though... just need Jason to hire me ;)
