Each season of 24 keeps the same fast pace and also revolves around the Counter Terrorism Unit / threats to homeland security.
If you like those things, you'll like the other seasons.
The last couple of episodes of the first season really build up the second season. So, if you're excited for the second season at the end of the first, keep going!

I thought it is/was a GREAT show, but if you didn't like the first season, you probably won't like the rest.

Somewhere into the 3-5th seasons, I feel the show reached a plateau. There's a point at which plot twists become expected, and this raises the need for more extreme plot twists, to the point that for me season 6 was really stretching believability. I still plan to watch season 7 on Netflix, though.
They're all good, if you ask me, just none were as good as the first two.

Does the show "24" improve after the first season?
I'm almost through the first season (Netflix) and I'm pretty disappointed. When Bauer's wife got amnesia and his daughter got kidnapped AGAIN, It seemed like a bit too much to me. It reminded me of Star Trek's occasional use of time travel to solve problems with the plot.

I have placed the 2nd season in my Netflix queue. I hope it does improve.

It's those far fetched cliff hanger things that get me. If I yell "bull****" at the screen a lot, it's not for me.
Like when Keanu Reeves jumped that bus across an open section of highway in the movie "Speed" and kept right on going.

I think the first season was the best and the second... second best. I think I stopped watching after about the fourth season. It seemed to go down hill after about this point. I thought it is/was a GREAT show, but if you didn't like the first season, you probably won't like the rest.

Thanks drmatt, that's exactly what I'm afraid of. I'll at least give it a few episodes into the 2nd season before I decide whether or not to commit.

The second season was the best, IMO. I really enjoyed the first season due to the immense tension and the novelty of the simultaneous scenes. The plot of the second season is more expansive, and the show continues to throw curveballs at you. Somewhere into the 3-5th seasons, I feel the show reached a plateau. There's a point at which plot twists become expected, and this raises the need for more extreme plot twists, to the point that for me season 6 was really stretching believability.
