Now I have a confession to make, until just a few days ago when I read about the list of performers, I had no idea who half of the acts were. So I cracked my knuckles and got down to a little music video browsing. And based on what I found? Not only am I looking forward to the World Cup, I'm hitting the "BUY" button over at iTunes.
Take a look at the Parlotones, who have become a new favorite of mine:

And you don't get much more soulful than Angelique Kidjo:
(here she's singing in French, but has recorded in other languages include Swahili)

And the best part? What we have isn't even the complete list of performers--it's just who's scheduled to perform on Thursday night. Friday's pre-game entertainers have been kept a secret. I can only imagine...
Now, what part am I looking forward to the most? Seeing these previously unknown acts perform live. Let's face it, I've seen Shakira, The Black-Eyed Peas, and Alicia Keys wiggle around stage and belt it out enough to last me a lifetime. If they're never at another MTV Music Awards, Grammys, Saturday Night Live performance or gas station opening, I won't lose any sleep over it.
But I can't WAIT to see some of these "new-to-me" performers on stage. It's promising to be my favorite concert event of the year. And I'm sure the soccer will be good, too.

M$I remember when this song came out in 1984, and I remember when Mandela was released in 1990. To spend all those years in prison, only to come out and become president. Amazing.

The second best thing that could happen would be if the Black Eyed Peas would sing
their song "Where is the Love". It is the only song of theirs that I have ever liked, and I actually lOVE it. Thye should dedicate it to Mandela. I think he would like it.
