Plot Synopsis
Marion Post (Gena Rowlands) rents an apartment, in order to write. Her neighbor is a psychologist and she can hear his patients conversations through the wall. One of the patients, Hope (Mia Farrow), tells about her damaged marriage. Marion has flashbacks about her own marriage and finds herself feeling empathy that she has never felt before. Gradually, Marion learns to care about others' emotions and troubles and learns that she has many of her own issues that were never resolved.
