Anna Lisa Smith

25-year-old Anna Lisa Smith, daughter of NASCAR owner, Ollen Bruton Smith, was hospitalized on December 10, 2008 after a one car accident. The accident took place on Gilead Road near Beatties Ford Road, Huntersville, North Carolina. Her wrecked vehicle was found off the road in a field. Police received a call around 5:10 a.m. concerning debris on Beatties Ford Road. On arriving at the scene, police found the vehicle in a horse pasture, 200 feet away from the road. Smith has been thrown about 40 feet from her car. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. Smith is said to be in a serious condition at Carolinas Medical Center.

Anna Lisa Smith's father is Ollen Bruton Smith, promoter and owner/CEO of NASCAR. Smith began auto racign at 8 years old. As a teenager he began promoting small events on a dirt track in Midland, North Carolina. In 1960 he launched Charlotte Motor Speedway but went bankrupt 2 years later. He bounced back by creating Speedway Motorsports, the 6 tracks that host the NASCAR series.
