Anna Goeldi, a woman who was beheaded in 1782 for allegedly practicing witchcraft and poisoning a child, was exonerated by the government of Glarus, Switzerland on August 27, 2008. Goeldi, who was the last witch executed in Europe, was a servant for the family of Johann Jakob Tschudi, a magistrate and prominent citizen of Glarus.
