Ann Arbor

  • Located in Washtenaw County, Ann Arbor is Michigan seventh largest city with a population of over 114,000, according to a 200 census. Ann Arbor is largely populated by college and graduate students attending the University of Michigan, which was originally located in Detroit in 1837.
  • History

Founded in January 1824 by land speculators: John Allen and Elisha Rumsey, Ann Arbor was incorporated as a village in 1833. Four years later, city planners decided to place the University of Michigan in the center of the village, forever associating the city with the University. The city has recently (1980s-1990s) undergone a economic change from a manufacturing-base economy to technology and service-base industry.
