Anjelica Huston is an American film actress who has starred in dozens of films and won an Academy Award for her performance as Maerose Prizzi in the 1985 film Prizzi's Honor. She is the daughter of the late American film director John Huston.
Brief Biography
Huston was born into what many would consider show business royalty. As the daughter of John Huston, the director of such films as The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, and The Misfits, the young aspiring actress had much to live up to. Her father directed her in her first two films, both released in 1969-Sinful Davey and A Walk with Love and Death-a year which would fatefully be the same year her mother, ballerina Enrica Soma, died in a car accident. After Huston won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1985 for Prizzi's Honor (which her father directed), she went on to garner two more Oscar nominations in the next five years: one in 1989 for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Enemies: A Love Story and one in 1990 for Best Actress for her role in The Grifters. She has recently appeared in three films by director Wes Anderson: The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and The Darjeeling Limited. In 2008, she co-starred in the ensemble comedy, Choke, based on the Chuck Palahniuk novel of the same name.
