Animated cartoons for their origins from their appearance in newspapers during a time period before the 20th century. With the advent of television and networks such as CBS and NBC, cartoons evolved onto television. During the 1930's and 1940's, with more Americans purchasing TVs, cartoons really became a fixture as programs on TV. Throughout the history of animated cartoons on television, they have mainly aired during weekday afternoons or Saturday mornings, after children have returned home from school. Only two animated programs have lasted more than two seasons while being aired in primetime, they are The Simpsons and The Flinstones.http://www.museum.tv/eotvsection.php?entrycode=cartoons
During the first week of December in 2010, many people began to feature pictures of classic cartoon characters on their Facebook profiles. The trend was started by the Campaign to End Violence Against Children. The goal of the group was to get everyone on Facebook to change their profile picture to a cartoon character to support abused children everywhere. The campaign continued until Decmeber 6, 2010.http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2010/12/trend-watch-why-your-facebook-friends-have-cartoon-profile-pictures/67520/
