Angry Birds Rio is a puzzle game available for iPhone/iPad/iTouch and Android devices developed by the Finnish company Rovio.c Angry Birds Rio is its own app which stands alone from Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons.c It was developed and released to tie into the animated film Rio by 20th Century Fox.c The app was initially released in March 2011 with two chapters, both containing thirty levels.c There are planned level updates for May, July, October and November 2011.c
Story
Angry Birds Rio consists of the seven birds from the original Angry Birds app (small red bird, blue bird, yellow bird, black bird, white bird, green bird, large red bird) but the setting takes place in Rio de Janeiro.c The birds are kidnapped and taken to Rio and kept captive in cages from which they need to be released (this is the goal of the first chapter).c The angry birds then set out on a magical adventure to save their two rare macaw friends, Blu and Jewel.c In the second chapter they encounter evil marmosets which they have to destroy (similar to the green pigs in other Angry Birds apps).c
Gameplay
In the first chapter, Smugglers' Den, the object of the game is to launch the angry birds into the cages of the captive birds to set them free. This is done by using a large slingshot. In the second chapter, Jungle Escape, the birds must destroy the evil marmosets by launching themselves into the marmosets themselves or into the structures (wooden, ice, concrete, etc.) around them. Points are awarded for freed birds, destroyed marmosets and damages done to the structures within each level. Unused birds are worth 10,000 points each. One, two or three stars are awarded for each level depending on the number of points scored within that level. There are awards hidden within certain levels which can be discovered by launching birds at them.c
Series
Angry Birds Rio is the third angry birds app to be released by Rovio. The other two angry birds apps are Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons.c
