  • Geography and Climate

An arid coastal strip stretches from the capital city of Luanda along the Atlantic Ocean to the Namibian border in the south. This area is moderated by the cool Benguela current, which creates a climate similar to that of Baja, California. The interior highlands, where altitudes reach 3,000 to 6,000 feet, are wet and cool, with temperatures often dropping below freezing during the winter months. Dry savanna is characteristic of the interior south and southeast regions, while heavy rains are prevalent in the northern rainforest area.
