The Anfoushi (also al-Anfushi or Anfushi) is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Alexandria, Egypt, and home to many important historic sites and landmarks, including the Qaitbay Citadel and Anfushi Tombs that date from the Greco-Roman period.
In addition to its history, the neighborhood is also home to the Abu El Abbas El Mursi Mosque, the city's most important and as such a centre for Islamic culture, along with the Anfoushi Cultural Palace, a government run arts centre, and a thriving fish market.http://www.touregypt.net/

Located in the north end of the city, the Anfoushi neighborhood overlooks the Mediterranean.You'll pack a lot of sightseeing into a relatively small area if you target this neighborhood. Some of the major attractions include:
Qaitbay Citadel: Built to defend the city in the 15th century by Sultan al-Nasser bin Qalawoun, the Citadel is located at the northern edge of the entrance to the eastern port, in teh exact same location as the ancient great Lighthouse of Alexandria. Today it houses a museum and the Alexandria Aquarium.
Abu El Abbas El Mursi Mosque: Constructed in 1775 by Algerians, it was built over the tomb of the thirteenth century Murcia Andalusan saint, Ahmed Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi (Abu'l 'Abbas) It's been a focal point for Muslims since the mid 7th century and has a long history as a sacred site.
Anfoushi Cultural Palace: This government owned and operated cutlural institution hosts fine art exhibits and cultural and educational events.
Anfushi Tombs: Dating from 250 BC, these tombs are made of limestone and are decorated with pictures of Egyptian gods and daily life in a Greek inspired style.
