Brief Bio
After attending Deer Park High School in Deer Park, Texas, the Yankees drafted Pettitte in the 22nd round of the 1990 amateur draft. Pettitte opted not to sign with the Yankees, and instead went on to pitch at San Jacinto College North for a year. The next year Pettitte signed with the Yankees as an amateur free agent. -
2008 Free Agency

1995 was Pettitte's first full year in the majors, winning 26 starts for the Yankees and finishing 3rd in American League Rookie of the Year voting. Pettitte pitched for the Yankees from 1995 to 2003, winning four World Series and making the All-Star team twice. At the end of the 2003 season, Pettitte signed as a free agent to join the Houston Astros. He pitched three years in Houston and helped lead the team to the 2005 World Series. In 2006, Pettitte returned to the Yankees as a free agent.On December 26, 2008, news agencies reported that Andy Pettitte will likely not return to the Yankees. The Yankees have offered Pettitte a one-year deal worth $10 million dollars. Pettitte received $16 million in 2008 to play for the Yankees. If he were to return he would take a pay cut of approximately 6 million dollars. The Yankees have spend $423 million in the 2008 off season, signing pitchers C.C. Sabathia, A.J.
